St. Valentine's Day Wreath

inspirationsbyd.blogspot.com
After the Holidays, instead of putting away all the decor, why not transition to the next holiday by using the decor that you already have on hand. An easy idea perhaps is by re-using a Christmas door wreath.

For this little project I simply used a Christmas berry wreath.

I purchased heart picks covered in glitter, both in red and in pink at our local Dollar Tree. I then placed them around the wreath to make it look more like a Valentine wreath.

I also added three Valentine's Day pom-pom picks to the wreath for fun.  You may find a number of hearts at any craft store or section of a retail store that sells seasonal items. It only cost three dollars for this project.
You may apply it to a floral arrangement, table scape, or a tier trey. I slid the pick part of the hearts through the branches, and it held well.

This is so easy, it doesn't really need instructions, simply add the hearts or other decor pieces randomly around the wreath and you will now have a St. Valentine's Day wreath on your door. Get creative and extend your current decor to the next season.

Happy Decorating!

Gift Ideas for Her

valentine's day gift ideas

St.Valentine’s Day is almost here but don’t let that be the only reason that you buy someone a gift or buy yourself something, celebrate every day! After all, we should be thankful for waking up every morning. Today I will share personal items that can make great gifts for someone in your life or for yourself.

We appreciate beauty, style, and relaxation so I will share a few items that fit those categories. For instance, I like to put away my jewelry especially my favorite Gold earrings in a lovely Jewelry case, such as the one that you see here.  It has several compartments making it a perfect storage solution for your precious accessories; it is just plain adorable.  Do you love beautiful gold earrings too? I know that I do! I love to look well put together, so I use different styles of earrings for different occasions and these lovelies are great for when I go out with friends or on a date night.  I like to pair them with a simple classy necklace throw on my clothes and head out. I just love the simplicity yet the beautiful design as I do with many other accessories.

Heart Donuts

heart donuts

After searching for some inspiring sweets for Valentine's Day, I hit jack pot and got inspired to make my own heart glazed donuts from here. Not only did I make glazed, but I sprinkled some with cinnamon sugar too, oh yum!  Those may be viewed on behind the scenes on my instagram.
I used a different glaze for this recipe.  I have to say, the kids were excited to see these.  Who would have thought to use biscuit mix to make these lovelies?  Love that!

For these donuts I used Biscuit Grands Flaky Layers.
I use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut my hearts out or any shape you wish.
I used the same Heart Cookie Cutter that I used to make my heart shaped pancakes.

When you are done cutting your hearts, fill a pot with about 3 cups of vegetable oil,
enough to cover your dough when frying.
Amount depends on the size of your pot, it should be about 3 inches deep.
Warm your oil on medium heat, set about 350 degrees.

Fry the donuts for about 1 minute or so on each side.
Remove from heat and set on paper towels to soak excess oil.
Inspirations by D
Let your donuts cool.
In the meantime, make your glaze.

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cup Confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2-4 tsp milk
drop of red food coloring for pink coloring

Place sugar in bowl, add vanilla and milk, slowly mix until you have your desired consistency.  You will want your glaze to be thick.  When you have reached your thickness level, put aside a bit of the glaze in a small bowl to mix with food coloring to add pink design to the donuts.
When the donuts have cooled off, dunk your donuts halfway into the glaze mix then pull up.
Allow excess to drip off into the bowl.  Put aside and continue to do the same to each one.
For your pink glaze, take a plastic zip lock bag and pour your glaze into it.
Cut a small hole on a corner forming an icing bag.  This will help you add the pink icing to your donuts with ease.
Let your glaze cool and enjoy the donuts!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Make Heart Shaped Sugar Cubes

heart shaped sugar cubes
Today I will be sharing with you how to make these cute sugar shaped hearts.
These are pretty easy to make and can be done in any shape.

All you need are the items above, but you may opt for a regular square-shaped
mold or other shapes.  I also could have tinted the hearts to make them look extra cute,
but I don't like food dye in my coffee:-)

1.So you start with a cup of sugar.
2. Add three to four teaspoons of water.
3. Mix the sugar with the water to the consistency of wet snow, but not too moist.
4. Put the moist sugar into your mold pressing firmly so you don't leave air bubbles.
5. Place the mold with sugar in the microwave for about 40 seconds.
6. Then place it in the freezer for a few minutes to cool.
7. Once they are cooled, pop them out of the mold and you will have your sugar hearts.

Dabbling on Valentine's Gifts & Crayon Hearts

What's all this you say?  This is what I have been working on for Valentine's Day.
I have not decorated my home for Valentine's Day except with a couple of prints
and a handmade garland.  I'm not much of a decorator outside of Christmas,
but for my son's sake,we'll craft something together that reminds us of the upcoming
holiday, in this case Valentine's Day.

I have also been restocking my little shop with new magnets in blue and green colors.
Perhaps you may want to drop by and check it out for gift giving.
With Valentine's Day, Birthdays and Easter approaching you may want to get some before
they are gone.  Remember, I will not be making any push pins until possibly the summer.

We have also prepared little gifts for his classmates and teacher.  This year his teacher
is getting this "Love is Patient Printable" and perhaps magnets to go along with it.
His classmates will receive homemade heart shaped crayons and other little treats.
Below are some photos of the Heart Shaped Crayons we made.

1. My son chose to make them in different colors.
2. We took off the crayons wrappers.
3. Placed the crayons inside the silicone heart mold & let it melt in
the oven at 325 degrees for about 13 minutes or so.
4. After they melted, we placed them in the refrigerator to cool
and they were harden in minutes, they were easy to pop out with
the silicone mold.  You should try it!
