New York in the Summer

New York in the Summer
Ellis Island
Freedom Tower progress.  The tower is currently taller that the Empire State Building
and seems to be the second tallest building in the United States,
but soon after it is done, it be be the tallest in the USA.
Cooling off in Battery Park.

There is something about being home in the summer that captivates our hearts.
Family, friends, the food, the parks, the scenery, the events, the richness of the
culture and so much more.

The High Line in Photos/ New York City

The High Line in Photos/ New York City
The High Line in New York City is a Public Park  built on a historic freight
rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.  Read the history here
Visit The High Line website here for more information.
Cooling off my toes, it was a hot and humid day, let me emphasize that,
HUMID & HUMID,
makes 98 degrees feel like 104.  There were many of us cooling our heels that day
on this water feature.
This little spot is great to sit and enjoy the view of the river.
Great for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below.
Find cafes, art work, bands, and more while on the High Line.

Enjoy!

Happy New Year 2012!

Hello friends and Happy and Blessed New Year!
Today I took a brief moment to post a few photos from my trip to
Gran Ventana, DR and to wish you a blessed Year.

That's me up there with the floral dress & my sister on our first day at the beach.
Unfortunately, I didn't take my good camera, what was I thinking?

I tried my best to work with what I had and believe me, that little camera,
was not cooperative at all.

I loved the colors surrounding this little play ground
situated behind the hotel, right off the beach.
It was surrounded by palm trees and almond trees.

Honestly, the pictures do NO justice.
I wish I could have taken you with me.
Here's to a New Year filled with much love,
joy, peace, health, creativity, inspiration and many
blessings!

Thank you my dear friends for coming over and sticking with me.
I am forever grateful & love you!

Gran Ventana Beach Resort

Hello friends! I hope that your Holiday weekend was filled
with lots of Love, Warmth & Happiness.

We had a blessed Christmas.
We had a wonderful opportunity this year to spend
our Christmas weekend with my family at the
Gran Ventana Beach Resort, in the Dominican Republic.
I had a wonderful time and my son absolutely loved it!

The Gran Ventana offers a distinctive blend of sophisticated design
with the charm and hospitality of the Dominican Republic.

It was an all inclusive stay!
Beaches, pools, shows, activities and so much more.

The resort's lobby extends with beamed ceilings, a huge cast iron chandelier and a
view of the ocean as its centerpiece.

The water was crystal clear, blue and just beautiful.
We loved it!

Hope that you enjoyed!  Thank you for stopping by
and enjoy the rest of your Holiday!

Our Trip Back Home: Remembering 9-11

When we drove home to New York City this past Spring, we visited Ground Zero to remember the victims of 9-11.  We witnessed part of the reconstruction of the site that will serve as a memorial for all the victims of that terrible day.

The construction workers work everyday to get these buildings up.

This is a view of the Freedom Tower/ Tower One.

This skyscraper will be several hundred feet taller than the World Trade Center.  It will mark the location of 9-11, so where ever you are in the city, you will be able to see it.

The actual prints of where the towers stood will be fountains marking the foundation of the Twin Towers with the names of all the victims of 9-11.  Under the fountains, deep in the foundation of the the two towers that once stood there will be the Memorial Museum.

We always visit this location when ever we are in New York City, we all have our stories of that day.
Do you remember where you were and what you were doing?

Coney Island Astroland Park (Guest Post)

Astroland Cyclone
Guest post by Mikey (my husband)

One of our many stops back home in Brooklyn was to Coney Island Astroland Park.
This nostalgic, family-friendly amusement park brought back so many childhood memories.
Home to The Cyclone, this New York City National Historic Landmark is listed in
the New York State Register of Historic Places.  You may read the history
of this Amusement Park here and here.
Wonder Wheel
I remember coming here in the summer months as a child with my dad.  My weekends
were filled with cotton candy, seafood and the kiddie roller coaster.
It was happiness for me as a five year old and as a teenager.
As I tried to catch a glimpse of the kiddie roller coaster to show my little one,
I noticed that it was gone.  It was replaced with another ride but not from my memories.
They were testing the Soaring Eagle while we were walking around
eating Nathan's famous hot dogs.  I wanted to ride it so bad, but had to
wait until the weekend when it was to open.
Like myself, my son loved it!  He loves carnivals and amusement parks
so this was a special treat for him.
This sign was pretty BIG and visible.
...need I say more!  :)
